About Us

Hello! My name is Tammy-Thanks for popping in on my little venture.
Why Soap?
I was fascinated with the whole process of soap making.  The science of it.  Go figure, I almost failed science in middle school! So why the fascination? Because I can actually see the science at work.  The oils combine with the lye creating a whole new product- soap. And I find it a relaxing, productive creative outlet. I also have control over the ingredients. Making products without such harsh chemicals like the ones found in many store bought products is satisfying. It's a win for everyone!
My soap making spark was ignited after a wonderful friend gave me a bar of her own handmade soap. I loved it!  As I had been wanting to make soap for years, this piqued my curiosity, but being the methodical overthinker that I am, I was nervous to give it a try. So, I put it off.
In the meantime another artsy friend kept telling me she wanted to make soap with me. She said we would have fun, we just needed to plan a time. It just never happened. But by then I had been watching video after video and decided that soap just might not be as scary as I thought.
Now, I have been a school bus driver for the last 21 years. I work as a Lead Driver and wanted to make some personal gifts for the school bus drivers I was working with. It popped into my head that soap would be perfect!  So you could say this was the catalyst that turned the spark into my soap making journey. I got to work at that point and I just kept going.
After being sponsored on BeyondBaubles.com for a time, I grew to the point that I needed  my own online store. And here we are!
Where did the name SoappinS come from?
Have you wondered? As you browse my shop, you may notice a theme, especially in my soap names. I used to tease my children that I was 'Mary Poppins, practically perfect in every way'. Usually after I did something quite imperfectly! I often referred to this movie when helping my children appreciate the 'fun' in some job they had to do.  Which, funny enough, they didn't appreciate as much as I did. And I told them many times that I never made 'pie crust promises', because 'they are easily made and easily broken'.
Over the years, this became a constant interaction. Our family often quotes from a variety of movies, but as the children got older, they embraced my Mary Poppins persona. She was strongly featured in several anniversary gifts and I even have an adorable little Mary "Funko POP®"* in my soap studio. (Did you find her in the picture above?) Hence, the name SoappinS seemed appropriate for my soaping adventure.
